Amy Rutherford Ceramics Handmade Wheel Thrown Heart Shaped Stoneware Mug with Green Blue Glaze

Amy trained in ceramics at the University of Sunderland, where she achieved first class honours in Glass and Ceramics. Through delivering workshops in the community Amy realised she loved teaching as much as she loved pottery. So she went on to complete her PGCE in primary education.

Amy has over 10 years ceramic experience and now runs an independent ceramics business in the North East of England delivering workshops to adults and children as well as making and selling pieces.

Amy’s work is designed for a classic, timeless feel. By bringing quality, handmade craft into the home she hopes that her ceramics become part of your ritual and enhance everyday.

About Amy’s Work

Packaging and Impact

Amy’s pieces are carefully and thoroughly packaged to ensure your order reaches you safely. To minimise the environmental impact, all of her packaging is eco-friendly, recycled, recyclable or compostable.

How the Pieces are Made

Amy’s pieces take shape on the potters wheel and are made using either stoneware or porcelain clay. Once the piece has reached the leather hard stage, it is carefully trimmed and fettled before being bisque fired and later glaze fired.

Glazes

Amy uses traditional glazes, which come in a variety of colours, from rich sea blue to warm speckled white. Many of Amy’s glazes have a reactive element meaning they move and run in the kiln to create interest and depth on the pot surface.
